Balsam Fir Candle

Catskill Forest

Balsam Fir · Hemlock Moss · Bluestone

A hand-poured balsam fir soy candle inspired by the stillness of Sherrill Mountain at elevation. Crisp balsam fir opens into shaded hemlock moss and a cool mineral bluestone base — recalling mountain rain, quiet trails, and the deep green calm of the Catskill High Peaks. It is the scent of the forest above 3,000 feet, brought home.

The scent, in detail

What a balsam fir candle should smell like

True balsam fir is crisp, green, and resinous — cool rather than sweet, with the clean bite of evergreen needles warmed by sun. Our Catskill Forest candle builds from that fir top note into hemlock moss, the damp, earthy green that gathers in the shade at the trail's edge, and settles on bluestone: the cool, mineral stone that carved these ancient ridges. The result is a forest you can recognize — not a perfume, but a place.

If you love the smell of a Christmas tree lot, a fresh-cut fir wreath, or the first breath of air on a high-elevation trail, this is the candle built to hold that memory. New to the note? Read what balsam fir smells like or browse our guide to candles for hikers.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Catskill Forest balsam fir candle smell like?

Crisp balsam fir opens the scent, giving way to shaded hemlock moss and a cool, mineral bluestone base. It reads as a clean high-elevation forest — evergreen and green, never sweet or artificial — like mountain air after rain.

Is it a real soy candle?

Yes. It's hand-poured from USA-grown soy wax in a 9 oz reusable glass vessel, with a clean cotton wick and a 50 to 60 hour burn time.

How do I get the best burn?

On the first burn, let the wax melt fully to the edge of the glass (about 2 to 3 hours) to prevent tunneling. Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before each burn.

Where is it made?

Sherrill Mountain candles are hand-poured in small batches and inspired by the Catskill High Peaks of New York. The vessel is reusable once the candle is spent.
